Salesman with an AK-47 details the life of a young Irish immigrant who grew up in the UK in the 1970s, during the height of the IRA’s campaigns in mainland Britain. The book recounts Alan’s training as a Grenadier Guard, one of the British Army’s most elite regiments. The Catholic Irish soldier served in Northern Ireland in the midst of ‘The Troubles’, the violence of the mid-1980s.

I really enjoyed Alan Barry’s talk. It was informative, educational and inspirational. It was very good to hear the life lessons of someone who has seen it all and done it all and experienced both success and failure and managed to come out of it on the other side.
